Bookends not only work as supports for holding books but also work as accessories adding sophisticated details to help style a study library, shelves, desktops etc. Corbels are architectural elements but can be repurposed to add a decorative touch to a vignette.
Here, I have refinished the corbels to create bookends.
I found a pair of corbels during my recent visit to the local second hand store. Though these corbels are made of resin, they have good architectural details. I didn’t bother to take off the hardware. I painted them with 3 coats of Americana chalky paint in white. Then, I randomly added a few strokes of liquid gold, acrylic gold and then rubbed on some antiquing gel with a wiping cloth. To create a distressed look, I lightly sanded them , and then sealed them with SC Johnson’s paste wax.
The corbels have now been transformed into bookends. I have placed them on a black lacquered tray to hold a few books on one of the end tables.
I love my new, ‘vintage’ looking Bookends.
